Working towards a more inclusive outdoor culture
Sahale Outdoors exists to create space for play and discovery for both youth and adults, foster a sense of belonging in the outdoors, create a community around seeking adventure, and provide technical, environmental, and social education.
Historically, outdoor adventure has been characterized by a Western understanding of the outdoors as a place to be conquered and subjected. This mindset has resulted in the exploitation of many natural resources, violence against indigenous people groups, and the exclusion of marginalized communities from natural spaces. Through a holistic, education focused approach that prioritizes exploration, mindfulness, and approaching the outdoors with a sense of child-like wonder, Sahale Outdoors is committed to undoing these cultural narratives.
Our trips include year round adventure opportunities for youth, skills courses for adults, and week-long adventure fundraisers. All youth backpacking trips are offered on a “pay as you can” basis so that students who can not afford the suggested price are not limited from participating.
