High School Adventures

High School Adventures

Our adventures for high schoolers combine outdoor adventure with opportunities for personal development, nature education, and skill building. We offer backpacking, camping, and single day trips throughout the year, as well as courses focusing on wilderness skills, leadership development, advanced backpacking, mountaineering, and wilderness first aid. Explore the adventures we currently have available below!

Choosing Your Trip

The difficulty level noted below each trip reflects the physical challenge presented by the route. Trails with gentle slopes, short hills, and averaging less than 5 miles a day are considered “low difficulty,” but they may be hard work for students who are not athletic. We emphasize accessibility for beginning backpackers, moving as a team and supporting each other on the trail. These “low difficulty” trips move slowly and take frequent breaks in order to offer participants the opportunity to learn more about the flora and fauna of the trail, and offer support and encouragement to each other.

Students who are athletic, active, and enjoy physically challenging themselves should explore our intermediate or challenging routes. These trips have more average miles per day, and may include steeper, longer sections of trail. Participants do not need to have backpacking or hiking experience for these trips, and our orientation and educational content does not differ based on the route difficulty.

For students with backpacking experience who are looking for more advanced educational content, we recommend our wilderness courses, including the two week Wilderness Leadership Course, the seven-day Advanced Wilderness Course, or the two-day Youth Mountaineering Basics Course.
